About Aging Resources of Douglas County
Aging Resources of Douglas County (ARDC) is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting older adults and their caregivers by connecting them to critical resources, services, and information. ARDC plays a vital role in helping older adults age with dignity, independence, and security by providing direct services, navigation support, referrals, education, and advocacy throughout Douglas County.
As the needs of older adults continue to grow and evolve, ARDC is focused on strengthening its organizational capacity, expanding community partnerships, and increasing visibility and sustainability. The Board of Directors plays a central role in guiding this work and ensuring ARDC remains responsive, trusted, and impactful within the community.
Role Summary
Board Members provide governance, strategic leadership, and community representation to support the mission and long-term sustainability of Aging Resources of Douglas County. Board Members serve as ambassadors and thought partners, helping to strengthen ARDC’s legal, financial, fundraising, and community engagement capacity while ensuring the organization remains grounded in the needs and voices of the people it serves.
Key Responsibilities

Attend and actively participate in bimonthly board meetings, contributing to discussions and decision-making.

Provide governance and strategic oversight related to organizational priorities, finances, policies, and long-term planning.

Support organizational sustainability through fundraising, relationship-building, and advocacy, including making a personal contribution of time, talent, or financial support.

Serve as ambassadors for ARDC by helping to raise awareness, build credibility, and strengthen community partnerships.

Leverage professional expertise and networks to support ARDC’s growth, particularly in areas of identified need.

Represent ARDC at community events, meetings, and outreach opportunities as appropriate.

Contribute to the development of future committees and task groups as the board evolves.
Time Commitment and Term:

Commit to a two-year term with the option to renew (term limits apply to encourage fresh perspectives)

Board meetings are held every other month and are typically two hours in length, with a mix of in-person and virtual attendance options. Board Members may have up to three excused absences per year.

There are currently no standing committees, though members may help shape committee structures in the future.

Board Members are asked to give their time, talent, or financial support.

It is not a requirement to live in Douglas County to be on the ARDC board.
