About The Arc of Adams County

The Arc of Adams County is seeking dedicated and mission-driven leaders to join its Board of Directors and help protect, support, and promote the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. Board Members play a critical role in providing strategic direction, stewardship, and advocacy to strengthen disability rights and build inclusive communities.

 

Role Summary

Board Members provide governance, strategic leadership, and community representation to ensure the long-term sustainability and mission impact of The Arc of Adams County. Members serve as ambassadors, advocates, and thought partners to advance equity, inclusion, and opportunities for individuals with IDD.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively contribute to board meetings, discussions, and decision-making.

  • Provide strategic oversight of programs, finances, and organizational goals.

  • Champion disability rights and advocate for inclusive policies within the community.

  • Support fundraising, networking, and relationship-building to elevate visibility and resources.

  • Serve on committees and contribute professional skills in areas such as business, nonprofit operations, finance, policy, or program development.

  • Represent The Arc of Adams County at local community events, advocacy opportunities, and when appropriate, national ARC conferences (participation costs covered).

 

Time Commitment and Term:

  • Commit to a two-year term with the option to renew (term limits apply to encourage fresh perspectives)

  • Participate in monthly board meetings on the last Monday of each month, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (lunch provided and mileage reimbursed)

  • Residency in Adams County is not required. Individuals living outside the county are welcome, as broader perspectives support innovation and impact.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

This is an unpaid volunteer position, but the benefits of service include:

  • Recognition as a founding or contributing board member of a fast-rising, mission-driven nonprofit.

  • National and cross-industry networking opportunities.

  • Leadership and governance experience for professional advancement.

  • Public acknowledgment in media, reports, and events where appropriate.

Position Title: Board Member (Volunteer Leadership Role)

Organization: Colorado High-Country Educational Treks (Colorado Treks)

Location: Colorado; Monthly In-Person Meetings Held in Denver

Compensation: Volunteer position (unpaid)

About Colorado Treks

Colorado Treks is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through the transformative power of nature. Founded in 2016, Colorado Treks provides culturally responsive, nature-based education and outdoor experiences to youth and families from resource-limited communities. Programs such as the “I Am Nature” school curriculum and Mountain Medicine family treks give participants access to clean air, green spaces, and healing outdoor experiences often unavailable in their neighborhoods. Board Members play a critical role in advancing this mission by providing strategic direction, stewardship, and advocacy to ensure long-term sustainability and community impact.

 

Role Summary

Board Members provide governance, strategic leadership, and community representation to support the long-term growth and impact of Colorado Treks. Members serve as ambassadors, advocates, and thought partners to expand access to outdoor healing, strengthen programming, and help guide organizational strategy.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively contribute to monthly board meetings, discussions, and decision-making.

  • Provide strategic oversight of organizational planning, programs, and financial health.

  • Support fundraising, networking, and resource development through the board’s “Give, Get, or Get Off” practice.

  • Serve on committees and contribute professional skills in areas such as finance, law, health, conservation, marketing, community partnerships, or outdoor recreation.

  • Strengthen community relationships, elevate public visibility, and support organizational events and programs.

  • Attend at least one Colorado Treks program or school-day activity prior to joining the board.
     

Time Commitment and Term:

  • Commit to a one-year term with option to renew.

  • Participate in monthly board meetings on the second Tuesday of each month.

  • Attend a mandatory board orientation on the Sunday before your first board meeting.

  • Engage in Treks events and support major organizational convenings.

This is an unpaid volunteer position, but the benefits of service include:

Members serve as ambassadors, advocates, and thought partners to advance equitable economic growth, support Black businesses, and expand opportunities for Black entrepreneurs, workers, and families.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively contribute to board meetings, discussions, and decision-making.

  • Provide strategic oversight of programs, finances, partnerships, and organizational goals.

  • Champion economic equity and advocate for policies that strengthen Black business ownership, workforce mobility, and community wealth building.

  • Support fundraising, networking, and relationship-building to increase visibility, partnerships, and membership.

  • Serve on committees and contribute professional skills in areas such as business development, entrepreneurship, policy, finance, or community engagement.

  • Represent EDABC at local community events, economic development convenings, and key organizational events such as the Legislative Breakfast, the Economic Leadership Conference, and future workforce-focused gatherings.

 

Time Commitment and Term:

  • Commit to a two-year term with the option to renew.

  • Participate in board meetings six times per year, held bimonthly, approximately two hours each.

  • Participate in an annual retreat.

  • Join at least one committee and attend monthly one-hour committee meetings.

  • Support major public-facing events each year. While not all convenings require attendance, board members should be present for significant organizational activities.
